Our Farmers Market Vision

Develop a central hub for the Farmers’ Market producers and consumers for the Peace River Region. Enhance the heart of the Peace River Region by creating a vibrant location for economic activity that will be a driving force in downtown Grande Prairie.

We act as a catalyst to build relationships between urban and rural communities: bring people together in one common area.

We create weekly event and special events where people can enjoy shopping, eating, entertainment, fundraising and sustain local dollars.

Help create community well-being by providing a centre for not for profit organizations. Allow them to champion their fundraising causes and benefit from the energy generated by a regular, high profile community event like the Farmers’ Market.

    Did you know that the Grande Prairie Farmers' Market has been held weekly for over 40 years?

  • 1974

    The first meeting to discuss the idea of a Farmers' Market was held on February 15, 1974, and on May 4th, the first Farmers' Market was held at the fair grounds (where the Crystal Park area is now).

  • 2003

    We were incorporated December 3, 2003 as Grande Prairie Farmers' Market Society.

  • 2004

    We moved into our downtown location on the corner of 101 Avenue and 101 Street May 1st 2004.

  • 2009

    A -brain-storming Board session, April 2009, brought forth a new solid directive of the Market. Our goals were to bring in more high quality food choices, improve our lay-out and exterior building, focus on families and involve childrens' areas, encourage 'ready-to-eat' vendors and kitchens, and improve our community relationships. This new focus brought about a whole new market and the chance for our Farmers' Market to work to being the best it can be!

  • 2010

    July 9th and 10th, 2010 - Barn-raising Festivities, the chance to dance and sing in celebration of the hard decisions and work we have done, the reward for doing our best in all things!

  • 2024

    May 2024 will be the 50th Anniversary of the Grande Prairie Farmers' Market!
